The Economic Society of Australia (ESA) ACT branch invites you to a presentation on the role of economics and economists in government, and the challenges in developing good policy for fostering economic growth.
Gary Banks is a Professorial Fellow at the Melbourne Institute, having recently stepped down as Dean of ANZSOG. He was Chairman of the Productivity Commission from its inception in 1998 until 2013, and has headed national inquiries on a variety of significant public policy and regulatory topics. In 2006, he headed the ‘Regulation Taskforce’ for the Prime Minister and Treasurer, and in 2013 he was appointed to the Prime Minister’s Business Advisory Council. In 2014 Gary was awarded the Economic Society of Australia’s inaugural Distinguished Public Policy Fellow Award.
