MORE THAN HALF OF THE WORLD’S POPULATION LIVE IN URBAN AREAS AND THIS CONTINUES TO GROW.
The attraction of cities lies in the concentration and abundance of opportunities they provide for people. Access is at the heart of the success of cities, but often erodes as cities grow.
The fastest growing urban areas in the world are dense, crowded and massive producers of wealth. In many of these cities, the pace of rapid development has outstripped infrastructure provision and is accompanied by rising income inequality. The impacts of urbanisation on city dwellers are powerful, but too often aspects such as transport, city planning, architecture and governance structures fail to integrate people into their plans.
INNOVATIVE CITIES, INNOVATIVE MINDS
is a two day conference, hosted by the Capital Metro Agency, for leading and emerging industry professionals who want to influence and contribute to the successful planning of Canberra. Master practitioners and researchers will address the fundamental challenge of 21st century cities: ensuring cities work for those that live there. Future leaders will have the opportunity to exchange ideas, network and get involved in shaping the transformation of Canberra.
