Behavioural economics – WEN can you use it? 

The ACT Women in Economics Network (WEN) invites you to a presentation from Heather Cotching and Janine Bialecki from the Behavioural Economics Team of the Australian Government (BETA) on the topic of behavioural economics.

The session will provide an overview of behavioural economics, how BETA works and some of our recent trials. It will also look at some case studies in the field of behavioural economics to examine elements of bias through a gender lens.

Breakfast will be provided.

About the speakers

Janine is a public sector economist and a qualified lawyer. She worked at Treasury for eight years on consumer-centric policy issues including investor protection, bank policy and competition policy. In 2016 Janine completed a Masters in Behavioural Economics and Game Theory at the University of Amsterdam where she focussed on auction market design. Shortly after returning to Australia, Janine joined BETA where she advises on applying behavioural science to policy issues. Janine’s focus at BETA spans projects in tax, the banking sector, workplace relations and energy. 

Heather is the Senior Advisor of the Behavioural Advice team in BETA. Her team is responsible for providing advice on the application of behavioural economics to a wide range of policy issues. Heather has a degree in economics and has worked across government for more than a decade, including in Treasury, the Murray-Darling Basin Authority and the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science.
