ESA (ACT): The Economics of Aged Care
Following the report of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety, the ACT Economic Society of Australia is pleased to present a seminar on the economics of aged care.
This is a difficult market to analyse, with problematic economic questions about information asymmetry, how market power is exercised, even whether there is a genuine market at all (a phrase used in the Royal Commission report is “quasi-market”).
To address these questions we are pleased to have an expert presentation from Doug Ross from Deloitte Access Economics. Doug has been working in the field for many years and is considered one of Australia’s leading experts in the field of the economics of aged care. His firm was engaged by the Royal Commission to prepare modelling of changes to the Australian aged care system.
Chairing the session will be Stephen Bartos, who was a Senior Adviser to the Royal Commission and assisted Commissioners with, amongst other things, advice on the costing of recommendations.
The seminar will not disclose inside details from the Royal Commission or reveal confidential information provided to Commissioners. It will however be a well informed and interesting discussion of the key economic questions in this critical area of public policy. Anyone with an interest in aged care - and let’s face it, we will probably all need care at some time - is warmly invited to attend.
