ESA (ACT) Economics of Funerals
Date
From: Tuesday April 19, 2022, 5:30 pm
To: Tuesday April 19, 2022, 7:00 pm
The Economic Society of Australia (ACT) would like to invite you to enjoy a discussion about the Economics of Funerals.
The Economics of Death and Funerals: Tuesday 19th April 2022
Guest Speaker: Stephen Bartos
Last year an event was planned, but did not proceed due to COVID, on the economics of death, funerals and cemeteries. It has been re-scheduled for Tuesday 19 April this year (restrictions permitting).
There is an old saying that nothing is inevitable except death and taxes. Economists spend a lot of time considering taxes, and pay little attention to death. Yet it is a field where economic questions abound.
To help unpack these questions the March event will feature Stephen Bartos, immediate past chair of the Board of the ACT Cemeteries and Crematoria Authority and former NSW Parliamentary Budget Officer. He will provide an overview of recent developments including government reports on cemeteries, revelations about questionable practices in the funeral industry, and what is happening in Canberra’s own cemeteries and crematoria.
Canapes and drinks included.
