DESCRIPTION:ESA&nbsp\;(ACT): Tax Policy in the 46th Parliament and Beyond
Tax policy was front and centre in the election campaign\, and has continued to dominate headlines since then. But there has been widespread misrepresentation and misunderstanding of the economics of tax reform. Steven will offer his insights on these reforms\, taking the audience to the frontier of tax research\, and give some guidance as to where the government should take tax policy over the next three years and beyond.
Steven Hamilton is Assistant Professor of Economics at The George Washington University in Washington\, DC\, and Visiting Scholar at the Tax and Transfer Policy Institute at the Australian National University. Steven is a tax economist who uses Australian tax data to uncover the effects of tax policy. He has a PhD and MA in economics from the University of Michigan\, and a Bachelor of Economics with First-Class Honours from the University of Queensland. Before graduate school\, Steven worked on carbon pricing\, flood insurance and budget policy at the Australian Treasury.
