The ACT Women in Economics Network invites you to to hear from Alicia Payne\, the newly elected member for Canberra to hear about her journey into economics\, politics and the importance of making sure no one is left behind.
Alicia is an economist and her career focus has been on social policy. She holds an honours degree in political economy from the University of Sydney and began her career as a researcher at the National Centre for Social and Economic Modelling (NATSEM)\, publishing on issues such as poverty\, higher education and the impact of policy on families.&nbsp\;

Alicia has worked at Commonwealth Treasury\, in the areas of social policy and tax and as a policy adviser to then Opposition Leader Bill Shorten and Shadow Social Services Minister Jenny Macklin.

Alicia grew up in Canberra and has seen it grow and diversify. She loves our unique and progressive city and is raising her baby son here.
