DESCRIPTION:Women in Economics Event: Illicit Financial Flows: Myths and Measurements&nbsp\;Illicit financial flows detract from funds available for developing countries to invest in public services and productive enterprises. However\, the scale of the problem is difficult to pin-down and in some cases is likely to be exaggerated\, this detracts from evidence based discussions of solutions. This presentation will delve into the myths surrounding illicit financial flows and seek to clarify emerging evidence on measurement.

Vijaya Ramachandran&nbsp\;is a Senior Fellow at the Washington based Centre for Global Development. The CGD works to reduce global poverty and improve lives through innovative economic research that drives better policy and practice by the world&rsquo\;s top decision makers. Vijaya&rsquo\;s research topics include private sector development\, illicit flows\, anti-money laundering policy\, and development finance.&nbsp\;Prior to joining CGD\, Vijaya worked at the World Bank and in the Executive Office of the Secretary General of the United Nations.&nbsp\;She holds a PhD in Business Economics from Harvard University.
