Lecturer in Macroeconomics, International Economics or Financial Economics


About This Opportunity  

To engage as a Lecturer (Teaching Focused) in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Macroeconomics, International Economics or Financial Economics supervision and further development of the School’s programs, to undertake scholarship in Economics and to perform service and engagement activities associated with the School.

Teaching and Learning

  • Achieve teaching quality as indicated by approved surveys and outcomes for students and will improve or innovate where appropriate in response to feedback.
  • Take responsibility for the preparation and delivery of courses, including collaboration in curriculum design and delivery where appropriate.
  • Engage in face-to-face, online and/or blended modes of teaching preparation and delivery, as required.
  • Coordinate tutors and provide tutorial assistance if necessary and be available for consultation with students.
  • Contribute to the effective supervision of Higher Degree by Research and other students as required and as appropriate.

Scholarship related to teaching

  • Undertake scholarship related to teaching, developing skills and a profile in all aspects of teaching practice, continuous improvement of curriculum and teaching resources, and seek external validation for one’s own scholarship of teaching (e.g. via HEA).
  • Based on a developed understanding of pedagogy, produce new or improved approaches that can be employed within the School and University as well as reviewed by peers and disseminated within the discipline in internationally excellent and recognised outlets.

Service and Engagement

  • Demonstrate efficient performance in and management of allocated roles, share in academic service responsibilities, and contribute to outcomes of internal committees.

About You

  • PhD, or PhD thesis submitted by commencement, in Economics or a directly related
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge and an ability to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Macroeconomics, International Economics or Financial Economics and a credible ability to teach other subjects if required.
  • A proven record of high-quality teaching in a variety of settings (small and large group, tutorial, or computer laboratory and project supervision if appropriate), or relevant professional experience combined with some evidence of high-quality teaching.
  • A demonstrated ability to relate well to students in an interactive learning
  • An ability to establish effective relationships and to represent and promote the School at a University and wider community level, including public, private and/or community sector
  • High-level communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills that are consistent with the values of the School and University.
  • The ability to balance demands in teaching, scholarship and other service activities while maintaining high levels of work productivity.
  • An appreciation of the aims of the School and the University and a willingness to contribute to the achievement of organisational goals.


  • A developing profile in the scholarship of teaching as evidenced by participation in the communication and dissemination of teaching practice within the discipline and engagement in subject, professional and pedagogy research.
  • Skills in all aspects of teaching practice, including curriculum design, development of learning materials, analysis of learning needs of students, identification of appropriate approaches to teaching and development of formative and summative assessment appropriately linked to learning objectives.
  • An ability to seek ways to improve practice by obtaining and analysing feedback and actively implementing improvement strategies in response to feedback.
  • Experience in the design, development, delivery, and/or administration of online and/or blended educational practices.

Qualification Verification

An appointment to this position is subject to the verification of the highest academic qualification from the conferring institution. 

What We Can Offer  

This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) fixed-term position at Level B. 

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range AUD$101,533 - $120,570 per annum plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range AUD$118,794 - $141,067 per annum. An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate. 

The following flexible employment options may be available for this role:  some working from home; variable start or finish times; compressed hours; purchased leave; flex-time.
